Lecture 1/5. Singapore, 2010.

This is the first in a series of five lectures given in Singapore by Swami Maheshanandaji. It is given after his observation of an asana practice.

Swamiji uses this practice to begin a discussion about the importance of learning to maintain asanas to help us work with the sensations of bearable, comfortable and pleasurable. And how, when we understand this idea, we can apply it in our lives.

The second lecture in this series can be found here.

Interpretation

There are so many ways to practice asana. When one practices asana from a right base of understanding, the inner voice – our true teacher – is awakened. As we learn to listen to our body intelligence rather than letting our will power hold sway, conflict around us, and within us, reduces.

By evaluating our own experience of asana, we can experience what great sages talk of; until then it is merely book knowledge. The choice is ours.

As the first lecture in weekend workshop, we are also introduced to the theme of bearable, comfortable and pleasurable, the experience and understanding of which is expanded in the four following lectures.
